Are Big Changes Coming with June and July Google Updates?
Google is at it again. On June 2, 2021, Google released a Broad Core Algorithm Update call the June 2021 Core Update, with another one due next month. July’s core update will be called the July 2021 Core Update. Google didn’t get everything they wanted in time for June’s update, hence the subsequent one in July. While Google claims most sites won’t see an affect, webmaster are still worried. Google’s Danny Sullivan tweeted that sites that see a minor change in some of their content’s ranking will see the changes reversed in July. Updates usually take two weeks to roll out fully.
Google releases algorithm updates all the time. However, core updates only usually happen a few times a year. Instead of a regular algorithm update, which can only affect a small category of results, a core update impacts search overall. Core updates are designed to meet searcher's evolving expectations. Google wants to remain the dominate search engine, and the only way they can do this is to give people what they want. They are getting better at understanding user intent, so while some people see less traffic after an algorithm update, they may see the traffic they get is more qualified.
Publishers are not reporting any changes in ranking so far in forums. It’s too early to tell, but it does not look like there will be a panic like there was with the Penguin and Panda updates. If you have clients worried about the update, tell them you not to expect anything definitive until July. Any recent drop in traffic could result from the holiday weekend that signals the start of summer. Assure your clients that you don’t engage in any shady tactics, so they don’t have to worry. Concentrate on creating new, engaging content in different mediums and everything should be fine.
