Are Click-Through Rates Considered to be a Google Ranking Factor?

A website marketing specialist and developer noticed a new Google blog post. The article said that Google wants all guest posts on blogs to use no follow links. This site developer wanted to know how many people believe that a no follow link passes value to a page.

One person replied that no follow links pass value, but not as much as a do follow link does. They said they do not trust Google's advice on SEO. They added that almost every large and small website owner does guests posts in order to up their rankings. Another person said that at first, Google stated a CTR was not a ranking factor. Now Google says it is the most important ranking factor. They also have a hard time believing Google's advice.

Someone else added that no follow links still pass value. They wonder if Google needs to update its post about paid versus free guest blogs. That might be why Google says to add a no follow attribute to the links. Another individual said they pass value. They noticed a no follow link that added traffic and upped their rank for the page.

A different person wondered if Google added that statement in order to discourage black hat techniques. Somebody agreed with this. Most of the commentators figured that no follow links drive traffic and build brand awareness. More brand awareness means more traffic. A no follow link could also lead to a do follow link. No follow links also boost domain authority.

A few people agreed with Google about no follow not passing value. A couple of others said they did not care either way. Google also said not to do guest posts only for link building. Most agreed that this may only be for questionable links.

A lot of the people who commented wanted to see the Google posting that said not to use a do follow link in a guest blog post. There is not consensus yet on the issue. The website managers want more clarification from Google, and until then, they will keep on doing their things.
